Mom hasn't been home in a few days. I hope she hasn't forgotten she has a son.

Jian Yi is energetic and eager, often called clingy by those that he throws himself on in enthusiastic displays of affection and friendship. He is playful - pushing, tugging at clothing, and always wanting to do something ( video games, basketball, start a band, and eating everything though mostly sweets ). He thrives in the company of others but it's when he's alone that Jian Yi crumbles. All of those negative traits, needy and clingy specifically, come in to play when he's by himself.

When he was a child his father abandoned him and his mother for reasons that Jian Yi isn't aware of. His Mother was always working, to the point where he was raised by an 'Auntie' ( nanny ), and was often paranoid that his Mom would go out for something and never come back. These abandonment issues coupled with a young age led Jian Yi to depression, anxiety, and the inability to defend himself against bullies at school. He would constantly cry and hide himself away from his classmates. Everything changes when he meets Zhan Zheng Xi.

Zhan Zheng Xi ( Zzx ) comes into Jian Yi's life when he needs him most. He was the first person to worry for, love, and care for Jian Yi. Whenever he would get upset and cry or felt lonely, Zhan Zheng Xi would hold his hand and comfort him, telling a scared Jian Yi that he had super powers and would protect him. When the bullies come for Jian Yi again, Zhan Zheng Xi says, "Until you are strong enough, I will protect you. It’s a promise." This is something that doesn't fade even as they grow older. Zzx and Jian Yi become best friends, are always together, and eventually Jian Yi develops romantic and sexual feelings for Zhan Zheng Xi.

These feelings twist into something dark inside of Jian Yi. He's confused, worried, and frightened of what it means to feel that way about his best friend. He doesn't want to lose him, but he can't seem to make himself stop feeling that way about Zzx. He's never had much interest in anyone - men, women, nobody until Zhan Zheng Xi. Jian Yi struggles with accepting this. Zhan Zheng Xi confronts him about it, he's very aware of Jian Yi even if Jian Yi isn't, by simply asking if he likes him. Jian Yi admits it but Zhan Zheng Xi, at first, assumes that Jian Yi just likes men and is trying to come to terms with that fact. Through some difficult moments Jian Yi is able to express himself fully to his best friend ( it's only Zzx that makes him feel anything, it's not about liking men ) and he asks Zzx if he's abnormal and the quick response is no. Jian Yi needs that comfort. It wouldn't have meant anything from anyone else but Zzx.

It takes some time, advice from his other friend He Tian, and someone kidnapping Jian Yi , but Zhan Zheng Xi confesses to feeling the same way. After that they stumble through dating as Jian Yi is aggressively affectionate where Zhan Zheng Xi is not.

I want to have friends, even if its just one.

Over the years, Jian Yi comes into a version of himself where, even though he still deals with confusion, fear, and paranoia, he's happy. He misses a Mom that's never around and a father he doesn't know, but he's found not only one friend, but three who he cares a great deal about. In their group, he's known to be reckless, lazy, and an idiot ( he is not always the sharpest ), but loyal, friendly, and fun to be around. He Tian, who Jian Yi says is too handsome and too confident and scary, is the person Jian Yi goes to for advice; anything from love confessions to kissing and on. Lil Mo, or Redhead, is fiery and feisty, and Jian Yi has no issue with pouncing on him to initiate fighting or playing. He's always wanted to have people he could lean on, those that would defend and support him, be around when he's at his lowest, and he's got them now. He'd do anything for them.

Jian Yi can be bothersome, desperate, careless, scatterbrained, and brash, but he's equally passionate, extroverted, lively, loyal, and considerate. He understands that he's too clingy and that he often needs others more than they need him, but he levels that out with his eager and carefree mentality. Like many, Jian Yi is complicated, but mostly he's just an emotional mess who means well at the end of the day.
